Life is the performance - so train for your life.

Whether you are a busy professional, recovering from an injury, a current/former athlete, new to the gym environment, or simply looking to be challenged, you’ve made the right decision to train with KBD Performance.

My dedication to helping others reclaim control over their lives is the mission of KBD Performance.

Through individualized programming, I will help you reach your performance goals for your mind and body.

My journey has been anything but a straight line. I survived cardiac arrest, career changes, injuries, failures, and much more.

What did I learn? The perspective you take on your adversities actively molds you into the person you’ll become long after they have passed.

Through all my adversities, I maintained an active lifestyle.

Movement enhances your quality of life, no matter where you are in life.

My name is Coach Kai Bates-Diop, and I am a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) based out of Chicago, IL.  I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Minor in Spanish from Butler University, and my Master’s in Kinesiology with a Concentration in Performance, Sports, and Exercise Psychology from the University of Illinois-Chicago. I have completed strength and conditioning internships at Northwestern University, Transform Fit Club, worked with the UIC ROTC Battalion to prepare for the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), and have coached 70+ D1 student-athletes in a university setting.

My Story (Podcast Episode)

Surviving cardiac arrest as a 16-year-old taught me the fragility of life in a way that could never be replicated. Without a pulse for 4 minutes, I was revived through an AED/CPR. With zero control over the situation itself, my control lay solely in my response to this adverse event. The present moment became more monumental than it had ever been. As my life did a 180° turn, I found peace through exercise, deep introspection, and an immense appreciation of my environment through quality intent in every behavior.
